Fences at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is August Wilson’s landmark play, set in 1950s Pittsburgh. It follows Troy Maxson, who has cheated death once, as the pressure builds at home and the past keeps closing in.
Rose holds the family together while hoping their son Cory can step into a world with more freedom than Troy ever had. As dreams collide and tempers flare, the Maxson family moves towards a reckoning that could reshape their lives.
Directed by award-winning Daniel Bailey (Red Pitch, West End), this new production brings one of America’s most influential 20th-century writers back to the stage in a story about ambition, family and change.
