

Fences at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is August Wilson’s landmark play, set in 1950s Pittsburgh. It centres on Troy Maxson, who has cheated death once, but cannot escape the pressure of his past.
At home, Troy’s wife Rose tries to hold the family together while their son Cory looks towards a different future. As dreams collide and tempers rise, the Maxson family moves towards a reckoning that could change everything they know.
This new production is directed by award-winning Daniel Bailey, whose work includes Red Pitch in the West End. Wilson is described as one of America’s most influential 20th century writers.
