Allegra is a new comedy with music in London’s West End, starring Dame Maureen Lipman in the title role. Written by Peter Quilter, whose plays include End of the Rainbow and Glorious!, it follows a woman whose urge to sing carries her through home, the street, shops and cafés.
Sometimes the orchestra exists only in Allegra’s imagination, and sometimes it spills into the real world. Her brother Ronen and her carer Anna do their best to keep life steady around her, while the story looks at family, love and holding on to joy.
Directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear, the production features songs including Singin’ in the Rain, Ain’t No Sunshine, Dream A Little Dream Of Me and Happy Days Are Here Again.
