Abigail's Party at the Harold Pinter Theatre is Mike Leigh’s black comedy of suburban life, set in Essex in 1977. Tamzin Outhwaite stars as Beverly, hosting an evening where the drinks are flowing, the records are playing and the small talk soon begins to fray.
Beverly and her husband Laurence welcome new neighbours Angela and Tony for drinks, with Sue from next door also invited. As the evening goes on, the conversation shifts from awkward social niceties to flirtation and marital tension, with Abigail’s noisy home life next door adding to the chaos.
Mike Leigh’s play looks at social class, materialism and sexual tension in 1970s England in a tightly observed way, with the action unfolding as a single drinks party that goes badly off course.
Dates: Wednesday 12th August to Saturday 19th September 2026.
