Abigail's Party at the Harold Pinter Theatre is Mike Leigh's black comedy set in Essex in 1977. Beverly is hosting a drinks party for new neighbours Angela and Tony, with Sue from next door also invited, and the evening gradually shifts from awkward small talk into flirtation and marital tension.
Set against the sounds of Demis Roussos, the play looks at suburban life, social class, materialism and sexual tension in 1970s England. It centres on a gathering where the drinks are flowing and the atmosphere becomes increasingly uneasy.
