Abigail's Party at The Harold Pinter Theatre is Mike Leigh’s black comedy of suburban life in the 1970s. Tamzin Outhwaite stars as Beverly, who is hosting drinks in Essex in 1977.
Beverly and her husband Laurence welcome new neighbours Angela and Tony round for drinks, with Sue from next door also invited. As the evening goes on, the small talk turns into flirtation and marital tension.
With Demis Roussos on the record player, the alcohol flowing, and cheese and pineapple cocktail sticks ready, the play follows a fraught social gathering in 1970s England. It centres on social class, materialism and sexual tension.
