About Abigail's Party
Abigail's Party is at the Harold Pinter Theatre, London. Tamzin Outhwaite stars as Beverly in Mike Leigh’s black comedy set in suburban Essex in 1977, where a drinks party begins with the alcohol flowing, Demis Roussos on the record player and cheese and pineapple cocktail sticks on the table.
The evening centres on Beverly and her husband Laurence as they welcome new neighbours Angela and Tony, while Sue from next door is also drawn into the gathering. What starts as small talk soon gives way to flirtation, marital tension and social awkwardness in a portrait of class, materialism and sexual tension in 1970s England.
