About Abigail's Party
Abigail's Party at the Harold Pinter Theatre is Mike Leigh's black comedy of suburban life, set in Essex in 1977. Tamzin Outhwaite stars as Beverly, hosting drinks at her suburban semi as new neighbours Angela and Tony, along with Sue from next door, join the evening.
With alcohol flowing, Demis Roussos on the record player and cheese and pineapple cocktail sticks ready, the gathering moves from small talk to awkward flirtation, marital disputes and social tension. Leigh's play explores class, materialism and sexual tension in 1970s England.
