About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is now playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage production of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and is adapted by Tom Morton-Smith from the original story.

The show follows one summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei, telling a coming-of-age story shaped by childhood imagination and fantasy. It is produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi, and has won six Olivier Awards.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old, including babes in arms, will not be admitted. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them. Children need to sit in their own seat at all times. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking.

Content and performance notes: the show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, as well as live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children. It also contains themes of an ill parent in hospital. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
