My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre is the record-breaking, award-winning stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film. Created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company with executive producer Joe Hisaishi, it is adapted for the stage by Tom Morton-Smith.
Winner of six Olivier Awards, the production follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer, as their world is shaped by childhood imagination and a magical fantasy setting.
Set in London’s West End, the show brings the celebrated film to the stage in a large-scale production with puppets, including some that interact in audience space.
Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.
Age recommendation: 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6, including babes in arms; children under 4, including babes in arms, will not be admitted to the auditorium. Children need to occupy their own seat throughout the performance. All under-16s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them during the visit.
All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children. Younger guests and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
