About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London. This record-breaking, award-winning stage production brings Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film to the West End in a collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV. It is adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi.

The show follows one extraordinary summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei, in a coming-of-age story shaped by childhood imagination and fantasy. It has been widely recognised on stage, including six Olivier Awards.

Hailed as a “tender and remarkably beautiful show”, it offers a theatrical version of a familiar story with puppetry, live music and large-scale staging used as part of the production.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.

Before you book

Age recommendation: 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old will not be admitted into the auditorium. Children must occupy their own seat throughout the performance. All guests aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, seated with them for the full visit. All attendees, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket.

Please note that single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that may interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that can be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances. It is the customer’s responsibility to check the suitability of the performance for any children in their party.
