RENT at the Duke of York’s Theatre, London, is Jonathan Larson’s musical about a group of young artists and friends navigating joy, uncertainty and resilience. Thirty years after it redefined musical theatre, it returns to the West End in a new production directed by Luke Sheppard.
Inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, the show follows a story of community, connection and survival in the face of HIV/AIDS, bereavement, drug use, suicide, sex and sex work. It is a production that continues to resonate through its subject matter and its focus on living for the moment.
The production stars Gaten Matarazzo as Mark.
