Pride at the Bridge Theatre follows record-breaking sold-out runs at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre and London’s National Theatre before moving to London from 12 November. Set in 1984, it tells the story of 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton, who brings together lesbian and gay campaigners and striking miners in South Wales to form an unlikely alliance during a period of national unrest.
Written by the writer and directed by the director of the original hit film, this new musical combines humour and emotional weight with an original soundtrack inspired by pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition. The story focuses on solidarity between two communities and the impact that alliance has on both.
Described by critics as a “joy-filled celebration of togetherness”, Pride has also been called “hilarious and heartbreaking, silly and serious” and a “glorious spectacle”.
