Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre follows Nikolai, a man who seems to have everything in place but cannot shake the sense that his life is falling apart. He has a successful career, a wife he considers perfect, mounting debts and a home life shaped by her unexplained illnesses. Simon Stone brings Chekhov’s comic drama into the contemporary world, with the same creative team that worked on The Lady from the Sea.
As a party at the Lebedevs’ draws nearer, the play asks whether Nikolai can save his marriage, his career and his will to live, or whether he is already beyond rescue. It is a modern retelling of a classic story about pressure, dissatisfaction and the strain of trying to keep life together.
