Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre is Simon Stone’s contemporary version of Chekhov’s comic drama. It follows Nikolai, a man who seems to have a settled life: he has a successful career, a marriage to the perfect woman and enough in place to expect a comfortable middle age. Instead, he is feeling increasingly unwell, financially stretched and uncertain about what is driving his sense that everything is falling apart.
The story moves towards a party at the Lebedevs’ as Nikolai tries to steady his marriage, career and will to live. Stone’s production brings the play into the present day, and it reunites the same creative team that brought The Lady from the Sea to the stage.
