Ivanov follows Nikolai, a man who feels unable to be happy as his marriage, career and finances come under strain. He has a successful career and a wife he describes as perfect, but debt and her unexplained illnesses are beginning to unsettle everything around him.
Simon Stone brings Chekhov’s comic drama into the contemporary world, working with the same creative team that brought The Guardian’s “fantastically original, gripping and magnificent” The Lady from the Sea to life.
As the Lebedevs’ party approaches, the story asks whether Nikolai can keep his marriage, his work and his sense of self together, or whether everything is already falling apart.
