About Ivanov

Ivanov follows Nikolai, a man who has forgotten how to be happy, or is no longer sure he ever was. He appears to have the outward signs of a settled life — a successful career and a marriage to the perfect woman — but debts are growing and his wife has recently been laid low with unexplained illnesses. As his mid-life begins to unravel, he is pulled towards a party at the Lebedevs’ and has to face what is happening to his marriage, his career and himself.

Created by Simon Stone, this production brings Chekhov’s comic drama into the contemporary world. It reunites the same creative team behind The Lady from the Sea, described by The Guardian as “fantastically original, gripping and magnificent”.
