Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre is Simon Stone’s contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama. It follows Nikolai, a man who appears to have a settled life with a successful career and a marriage, but who is instead dealing with debt, his wife’s unexplained illnesses and a growing sense that things are falling apart.
The story centres on one evening at the Lebedevs’ party, as Nikolai tries to hold together his marriage, his career and his sense of purpose. The production is created by the same team that brought The Lady from the Sea to the stage.
Key facts: A contemporary take on Chekhov’s comic drama, following Nikolai’s mid-life crisis, family strain and pressure at work.
Age guidance: no one under the age of 5 is permitted within the auditorium, and the show is advised for ages 12+.
