Ivanov follows Nikolai, a man who seems to have everything he should need for a settled middle age: a successful career, a marriage to the perfect woman and a life that ought to feel secure. Instead, debts are piling up, his wife has been unwell and he is left questioning why everything feels as if it is falling apart.
As a party at the Lebedevs approaches, the play asks whether Nikolai can hold together his marriage, his work and his sense of purpose at the same time. Simon Stone brings Chekhov’s comic drama into the contemporary world, with the same creative team that brought The Lady from the Sea to life.
Simon Stone’s production is a modern take on Chekhov’s keenly observed comic drama, set against the pressures of private life, money and work.
This production is advised for ages 12+, and no one under the age of 5 is permitted within the auditorium. Latecomers may be admitted during a suitable break in the performance. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.
