Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre is Simon Stone’s contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama. It follows Nikolai, a man who feels he has forgotten how to be happy despite a successful career and a marriage to what is described as the perfect woman.
As debts build and his wife is laid low by unexplained illnesses, Nikolai is left questioning why everything feels as though it is falling apart. The play moves towards a party at the Lebedevs’, where he tries to work out whether he can save his marriage, his career and himself.
The production is created with the same team that brought The Lady from the Sea to the stage.
Key facts: Simon Stone brings Chekhov’s play into a contemporary setting, with the same creative team as The Lady from the Sea.
