Ivanov at Bridge Theatre is Simon Stone’s contemporary take on Chekhov’s comic drama. It follows Nikolai, a man who should be settled in midlife, with a successful career and a perfect wife, but who instead finds himself struggling with debts, his wife’s unexplained illnesses and a growing sense that something is wrong.
The story builds towards a party at the Lebedevs’, where Nikolai must face the possibility of losing his marriage, his career and his will to live all at once. It is staged by the same creative team that brought The Lady from the Sea to the stage.
Stone’s production brings the play into the present day while keeping the focus on the pressures, doubts and awkward comic tensions at the centre of Chekhov’s work.
Age guidance: No one under 5 is permitted within the auditorium. The show is advised for ages 12+.
