My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) plays at Shaftesbury Ave, Soho, London W1D 7EZ. This autobiographical show follows Rob Madge, a West End Musical Theatre star and social-media sensation, as they revisit a childhood attempt to stage a full Disney parade for their Grandma at home.
Rob’s story includes wigs, characters such as Mary Poppins, Ariel, Mickey Mouse and Belle, and the family chaos that came with trying to make the parade happen. Their Dad took on several backstage roles, Mum mistook Aladdin for Ursula, and the costumes did not quite go to plan.
The show is described as a joyous retelling of that memory, with Rob setting out to recreate the parade as originally imagined. It was awarded Best Off-West End Production 2022 by WhatsOnStage.
