My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) at Shaftesbury Ave, Soho, London W1D 7EZ is Rob Madge’s autobiographical show about a childhood attempt to stage a full Disney parade at home for their Grandma. It follows the story behind that family performance and Rob’s effort to recreate it.
When Rob was twelve, they performed as Mary Poppins, Ariel, Mickey Mouse and Belle in wigs and costumes, while Dad took on the roles of Stage Manager, Sound Technician and Goofy. The parade did not go exactly as planned: Dad missed cues, the floats went in the wrong direction and Mum mistook Aladdin for Ursula.
Presented by West End Musical Theatre star and social-media sensation Rob Madge, the production was awarded Best Off-West End Production 2022 by WhatsOnStage. Grandma had a nice time.
Running time: 1 hour 5 minutes.
