About

Following on from his previous shows 'Couple's Massage' in 2023 and 'Running Joke' in 2024, Richard returns with new show 'Best Job in the World.'

This show is about the overnight lifechanging moment of becoming a parent and the pre-conceived expectations you, friends and family have of parenthood compared to the eye-widening reality of the situation. People always told me being a dad was the 'Best Job in the World' so I had this notion that everything was going to be sunshine and rainbows the minute she popped out- but things didn't quite pan out that way at the beginning and I had to learn from scratch what it meant to be a parent.

This show covers moving from the freedom of London last January to the small Scottish Borders village on the outskirts of Edinburgh where I grew up in and hadn't revisited in 25 years. With memories lurking around every corner, I compare my upbringing to my daughter's and learn to embrace the challenges of being a good dad whilst also being open and honest about the problems parents face in their new role.

Along the way I discover the real meaning and realise that while I didn't exactly take to it like a duck to water, I maybe wasn't as bad at my new job as I initially thought.

My number one goal for the show is to provide a raucously funny hour which builds on the critic and audience buzz of my last two, and sparks hope for parents or future parents who are quietly going through the same emotions. By flipping it on its head and revisiting my own upbringing, I believe the show has plenty of relatable content and appeal to non-parents in the audience too.

I have a series of upcoming work-in-progress run outs of the show in early 2026 with 4 solo shows currently announced in town halls across the Borders and Midlothian and a show at Glasgow Comedy Festival in March with more festivals in the pipeline.
