The commercial exploitation of owls by Owl-Magic..is so wrong. Even if they try to call it education..they should know better.. if you want to watch owls. go out..and explore. Best regards. Ric

I tried to post a bit more at length my issues about the event but the site won't let me post. I have left a more in depth review on their main Facebook page. But in short, a refusal to listen to customers legitimate concerns over a shambles of an event (which was essentially geeky stuff and some famous people thrown into a shed), and accusing people of lying instead of looking into the actual claims, and passing the buck onto the venue THEY CHOSE, made them look like children who couldn't take on board any criticism and not the big company they make themselves out to be. I will be sticking with the other convention companies that provide a much better atmosphere year on year in Edinburgh from now on.

I have been going to conventions for a good number of years, all by various different companies, and I have to say this was unfortunately not up to the usual standard that I’ve experienced. There was something missing, the atmosphere was not what it normally is at conventions and it felt badly managed and a bit lacklustre.

There were a few good points to the day and overall my wee one (who is 3 years old and has been going to cons since he was 3 months old!) had a fun time but me and my other half were just not feeling it. I honestly tried really hard to enjoy myself. Especially since we had paid over 30 quid to be there. But there was a distinct lack of community spirit that is available at other cons, I think that a lot of it was down to a mismatched venue to the event, in other venues there are more breakout spaces where people can take a moment (even if it is just sitting on the ground/carpet!) and that’s when folk (everyone not just cosplayers) start chatting and feeling involved in the convention community, that wasn’t really available and it kind of felt like you took a bunch of geeky stuff and some guests and shoved them in a giant shed. I also felt with the displays and sets that some of them were pretty badly managed and we had to even tidy one up before getting a photo. Not ideal. Although some of them were fab! I also noticed you had a 'quiet' area, but since it was all in the same open space with music, stage performances and hustle and bustle, it was a bit pointless no?

The famous guests were a bit mismatched from what you would normally find at a *comic book* convention, as was the lack of comics, I think there was one dedicated stall? Although I do want to say that the overall standard of the traders stalls was nice and there was a good variety of things out with the comic books to peruse also.

There were no artists tables that I could see, I know there were artists selling prints etc which was great, and I bagged myself a couple of nice items! but you usually get a good selection of famous comic book artists doing signings and custom sketches etc and also people showcasing their independent label comics and from what I could see there wasn’t any (apologies if there was and I missed this area).

There was also a lot of miscommunication going round about food/drink/ATM machines. Initially you decided that people were not allowed food or drink into the venue, then you decided to change that and did not update your initial post, algorithms on Facebook are annoying things and by updating your original post it would have avoided a lot of unnecessary confusion or anxiety for attendees. There is also even an option to pin posts to the top of your page or event. Probably would have helped.

It kinda overall felt as though it was organised by people who maybe *think* they know what a comic con involves but unfortunately missed the mark. It was a fun day out for the kids (but that’s not a difficult feat). My humble advice would be to re-think the venue, remember your target audience, love and listen to the people who know what they are talking about and are voicing their (valid) opinions for you to listen and learn from and even show some humility and genuine understanding when responding. Famous guests are not the be-all and end-all of conventions, and a better variety of the types of guests attending would help. Making sure that all venue/guest updates are communicated to venue and con staff so that things like food and drink being taken off folk after you saying that wouldn’t happen doesn’t happen and that they know what the process is for guest cancellations etc.

All in all, I hope you can learn from what myself and others have said. There were obviously people who enjoyed their day and didn’t find problems but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any. I don't want events like this to fail, in fact just the opposite, we need more of this! I just hope you can make it work in future.

Also to add, their PR and rebuttals to comments on Facebook to people who have concerns is shocking. They need to take comments on board and stop behaving as if they're being attacked.

Just one hall!!! Rammed with people...2 food vans....queued one hour for food!!! The space ships on display..X wing, tie fighter etc were so bad....such poor quality....could have made better myself...
Expected this to be bigger and better than Edinburgh Comicon....I was wrong... Edinburgh venue 100 times better.... much more decent stuff to buy and no very crap spaceships on display....
Poor show by organisers!!!!

For those of us who have to rely on public transport its a trip and a half already, last year's location was alot more convinent after the hike up. Everyone was frendly and polite bar the predator. I didn't like the staff stopping Chris who agreed to getting a photo, I know he's no spring chicken but great Scots! The man doesn't have to charge for every photo he takes. They weren't exactly cheap either where they at 75 a pop after paying 65 a autograph. There's a desperate need too for photo discount after paying these high prices, some of the other stars have recognised this. If you made alot of doe isn't worth making more? Alot of empty seats sunday food for thought.

Great day out, something for everyone. Lots of stalls and interesting exhibits covering a wide range of genres including Star Wars, Back to the Future, The Terminator, Sons of Anarchy, Batman, Dr Who, Harry Potter, etc. Plenty of interesting stalls with a wide range of items and original art work from talented craftworkers.
The cosplay display and judging was really good fun showcasing some fantastic costumes from children and adults alike. Plenty of prizes for competitors and audience members too with an engaging and enthusiastic hostess.
Lovely friendly atmosphere although autographs and photos with celebrities were extremely pricey as was parking, 5 is ridiculous when most attendees have no choice but to drive there. A nice friendly event attracting stalls and attendees from many countries. I'd highly recommend comic con as a good day out.

Wrong venue for this sort of thing.
Saturday was a shambles, needed a much better lay out.
Sunday was a lot more enjoyable.
