If you didn't already know, the UK government is stepping up their game to protect children from being exposed to explicit online content, with the Online Safety Act (25th July). However, since the new legislation was dropped, it has caused some backlash amongst the adults on social media.

And that's just the start, as now Spotify has fallen under the act and is enforcing age verification to access certain content,  including music videos that are 18+. To gain access, you will now have to upload a picture of your ID, in which the system will 'estimate' your age.

However, there is a consequence: if you cannot provide your age or you don't meet the minimum age requirements, your account will be deactivated and eventually deleted.

This has caused uproar amongst Spotify users, who feel unsure about whether they want to proceed with using the app, along with other social media platforms which has started to enforce the Online Safety Act. So far, a petition has been created and signed by over 400,000 people in hopes of repealing the Act.
