Solway Festival - 25th –27th August 2006

Promising to be the best and most extravagant festival to date, with people already traveling to Solfest from all corners of the UK and abroad including Canada, Germany, Holland, France and the United States, the economic input of the festival on the local economy is well documented, and is extremely welcome, though as festival chairman Simon Kay is keen to point out "We originally started Solfest to bring a world class festival to this most beautiful corner of the UK, that is too often overlooked by promoters, agents and major artistes. We wanted, and still do want, to attract as many people as possible from Cumbria and the surrounding area itself to an event that was created specifically for them."

Those appearing at this years Solfest include The Proclaimers, The Wonderstuff, The Selecter, Simon Friend (of The Levellers), Dave Sharp (ex Alarm), Seth Lakeman, Bellowhead, Nick Harper, Cara Dillon, Dreadzone, Eat Static etc etc

Solfest prides itself in the fact that they defy categorization and actively try to programme as many different styles of music and arts as possible. Not only does this mean that the fest goer gets the chance to sample all sorts of new things that otherwise they may never experience, it also means that if what is on stage isn’t to their exact taste, wait for twenty minutes or so, there’ll be something totally different on, and if not, there are always another three stages, workshops, market, music sessions, cafés and much, much more to occupy them at Cumbria ’s largest and most vibrant live music and arts event.

Held annually at The Tarns Farm, Near Silloth, Cumbria on the Solway coast of the Irish Sea in north Cumbria, the Solfest site boasts the stunning backdrops of southern Scotland’s Galloway hills on one panorama and the north Lakeland fells on the other.
