It is that point of the summer where we say goodbye to Future Headliners. The last few weeks have seen us spotlight some of the best upcoming bands and artists who we think are going to go on to do great things in the future. We're going out with a bang this week by focussing on American band Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the North Carolina band released their excellent album Rat Saw God, which is easily one of the best albums of 2023 so far. Despite only being around for a few years, they have already released an impressive amount of music and find themselves with a fleshed-out discography.

Since signing with Dead Oceans (Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski) their profile has grown over the past year and Rat Saw God is the product of a band who are constantly thinking of new ideas. First and foremost you should know that this band absolutely shreds, with guitarist MJ Lenderman, who has an impressive solo career of his own laying down some of the most searing riffs you'll hear.

Combined with the lyrical talent of Karly Hartzman, who has established herself as a storyteller with an eye for minor details that bring stories to life, they have an incredible dynamic going on. There's the slow burn of songs such as 'Bull Believer' which takes you through eight minutes of constant turns and the boisterous 'Chosen To Deserve' with its simple yet effective guitar hook.

Wednesday are the type of band that you have to turn up loud, we recommend listening to 'Quarry', a perfect blend of country and indie rock that follows the story of a group observing a drug bust. They somehow make the uglier sides of life suddenly seem wildly interesting.

They have played plenty of shows this year and have appeared at festivals such as Primavera, whilst also touring the UK. They'll be back on British soil towards the end of the year where they will bring their infectious energy to our small venues. They aren't to be missed.

If you want to see Wednesday, then you can see their upcoming tour dates here. We're sure they'll go onto bigger and better things.
