As one half of Smith & Mighty, Rob Smith, was influential in laying the groundwork for both the trip hop and jungle scenes for which Bristol would become renowned. As well as their own releases such as 'Walk On By', they produced Massive Attacks first release ’Any Love’, Fresh Fours top ten hit ’Wishing on a star’ and provided inspiration and studio space to future drum n bass stars such as Roni Size, DJ Krust and DJ Die.
After the release of their 1994 album, Bass is Maternal, on the More Rockers label, Smith & Mighty, recorded a mix for the legendary DJ Kicks compilation for K7! records. Rob also released a solo album on Grand Central Records before his later acclaimed forays into dubstep under the alias RSD.
As accomplished a DJ as he is a producer, Rob Smith aka RSD, is gracing the hand-built Chum Chon Hi Fi with his unique take on dub, jungle, dubstep and trip hop that have marked his musical journey as one of the most respected pioneers of dubwise bass music.
With support from the Chum Chon HiFi selectors, J Black, Nicky General & Kev Original, on their own hand made sound system this night at Todmorden's Golden Lion promises to be a skank heavy bank holiday special.
