Morrissey once gloomingly crooned that “everyday is like Sunday.” With these mouth-watering roast options in the centre of the capital, you’ll wish this was true.

Picture this: You emerge from the tube station entrance, the Big Smoke unspooling before your very eyes. The Thames weaves its way through the city, slicing London in half into the much debated north and south sides. Jagged glass monoliths protrude far into the air, grasping for the tip of the bright blue sky.
It’s Sunday morning, you might be coming down with a case of the scaries (we’ve all been there), maybe you’re meeting up with family or friends for a nice catch up, potentially you’ve recently crossed the finishing line at the London Marathon, dressed as an inflatable T-Rex or an alien clutching you at the waist. Your reasons will be infinitely different from the people you brushed shoulders with on the Underground or the bus, those with a true crime podcast tucked into their ears or a paperback resting on their lap, still smelling of freshly cut trees. Either way, you all want the same thing on these kinds of days: a Sunday roast.
The image has already crystallised in your head - the clinking of cutlery and slurping of house wine ringing in the background and a napkin tightly tucked into the rim of your shirt, paired with the beautiful sight of a plate of perfectly cooked meat, potatoes and veg landing before you, soaked in a luscious tide of gravy and with a blooming mushroom cloud-like Yorkshire pudding resting on top.
Wipe that drool from your chin and turn the oven off, you’re dining in style this Sunday! Here are the best Sunday roasts in Central London.
Fallow
Where: 52 Haymarket in London, SW1Y 4RP
A recent favourite owing to its presence on social media, Fallow is a fine diner’s dream. Treat yourself on Sundays to a delightful roast crafted in the meticulous manner Fallow has become known for, plus Marathon runners get a free margarita if they have their medal on show. A bite of roast potato washed down by a gulp of tequila, triple sec, lime, and salt? Say no more, sometimes doomscrolling has its perks.
Blacklock
Where: 13 Philpot Lane in London, EC3M 8AA
Of course a steakhouse can produce a cracking Sunday roast. Blacklock’s Soho site is a tantalising site for tourists and locals alike traversing through the chaos of Central London, and their All in Sunday roast piles all the goodies high up on the plate. If your eyes are bigger than your stomach, you better resemble a cartoon character getting surprised.
Roast
Where: The Floral Hall, Stoney St in London, SE1 1TL
Imaginative name aside, Roast’s eponymous meal is the ultimate crave curer. Nestled within the colourful Floral Hall in the iconic Borough Market, you’re just as likely to leave with pockets full of luminous flower petals picked from the various plants scattered around the Floral Hall as you are with full bellies from the roast (not talking from personal experience here, I must stress). Stay a bit longer for the afternoon tea to try the fastest cake in the world (if you know, you know).
Sessions Arts Club
Where: 24 Clerkenwell Green in London, EC1R 0NA
Have you ever wanted to eat a painting? That might be a personal problem, but Sessions Arts Club satiates mine and like-minded people’s cravings, as this heavenly Clerkenwell Green eatery offers Turner Prize winners on a plate. They call themselves “a place to disappear” which sounds good to me. I just need a fake passport and a suitcase of crumpled notes. After the roast, of course.
Blue Boar Pub
Where: 45 Tothill Street in London, SW1 H9LQ
A delightful afternoon of pasture-fed and salt brined meats lie before you if you decide to venture through the doors of the Blue Boar Pub. Located in Westminster, this is one to stop off at once you tire of snapping pictures in front of the Houses of Parliament or impersonating the famous Big Ben chimes.
Lore of the Land
Where: 4 Conway Street in London, W1T 6BB
Ever been late for work because you spent too long talking to yourself in the mirror impersonating Vinnie Jones in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Redeem yourself by visiting the Lore of the Land, owned by the film’s director Guy Ritchie. Cultural references aside, Lore of the Land is a highly acclaimed gastropub in the heart of Fitzrovia, delivering blisteringly perfect pub classics to keep you coming back every Sunday.
Sussex British Bistro
Where: 63-64 Frith St in London, W1D 3JW
Embracing bold, British flavours and towing the fine line of perfecting both local and wild tastes, Sussex British Bistro is a cozy London haunt to fill your bellies in. Their seasonal food and sustainable, zero waste policy should entice any eco-conscious roast lovers.
The Devonshire
Where: 17 Denman Street in London, W1D 7HW
The drinkers among us will surely jump at the opportunity to visit The Devonshire. This Central London gastropub has been lauded for its Guinness and continues to deliver on the food front as well. Stay downstairs for the perfect pint and venture upstairs for its restaurant, where a smattering of pub grub and Sunday roasts await.
The Sekforde
Where: 34 Sekforde Street in London, EC1R 0HA
If infamy makes you sit up and take notice, the protein and trimmings on offer at The Sekforde should catch your eye, as they describe their food offerings as their signature "infamous roast". They also celebrate weddings, as if a restaurant couldn’t be perfect enough.
The Macbeth
Where: 70 Hoxton Street in London, N1 6LP
Sure, Sunday roasts are one of our country’s proudest dishes, and a poster boy for the unfairly maligned British cuisine. That being said, The Macbeth adds an Iberian twist to the classic weekend supper, offering Portuguese-inspired riffs on your favourite beef and poultry-laden classics. Just one bite will transport you to the slanted roads and tram tracks of inner-city Portugal. I need to book another flight to Lisbon.
