Ross Alexander is the co-owner of the popular Forte Techno imprint, and has been releasing music since 2009 on BCR, Naked Lunch, TMMR, Gobsmacked, Elektrax and others. Here we review his forthcoming EP which is released 18 August 2014.

The drums on this track really remind me of Underworld's programming; pacy, tight and regular doubles on half and quarter notes. Even the title 'Creeper' fits. There is also an infectious, hectic synth line that builds and builds up to the breakdowns. This is the sound of lost hours on the dancefloor, and would be a perfect late night choice.

Listen to Creeper

'Killawatt' is the most thoughtful track here I think. More slow breathing alien noises and a rain of static really cool the heat from the pounding drums, and the track evolves beautifully through some slightly unhinged (in a good way) percussion to the final phrases and outro.

'Prismatic' feels like the soundtrack to an alien planet. Hissing and burbling noises breathe in and out of focus, and several elements operate on a "now you hear it now you don't" basis. The churning, tunneling bass in this track is so well done that all Ross has to do to create the first breakdown is remove it then let it kick back in just as you realise what's happened. It's a pretty hefty track but it's done with poise and grace.

A famous techno DJ once described the genre as 'space music' and I think after hearing this EP, I understand that a bit better. It's full of powerful and ethereal sounds that immerse you and take you somewhere else, working equally well as listening and dancefloor tracks. Fine work Ross!
