In the grand scheme of August Bank Holiday traditions Notting Hill Carnival is in the upper echelons of essential excitement. A fusion of Caribbean culture, since its inception in 1964, has become the biggest street festival in Europe, it’s a must attend event for anyone in the UK. Alongside the Carnival a raft of events exists side by side as well for you to drift in and out of, soundsystems, clubnights and raucous shindigs that sometimes adhere on the original musical thrust or throw it completely out the window.

This event is a prime example of the former. Pitched as “an all day and all night celebration of Jamaican culture and music featuring a Reggae music acts, Rum sessions, live art and Food”, the focus is on clearly recreating the music, cuisine and feel of Kingston in East London. Naturally the soundtrack befits this goal, with the Reggae Roast residents circumnavigating the full spectrum of modern Jamaican music, right from the early rumblings of Tropical and Dub up to the digital era and dancehall.

The daytime is a free entry BBQ with evening falling enabling the focus to switch firmly towards a clubbier thrust. Drum & Bass pioneer Shy FX will be dropping an exclusive reggae set, ably supported by the honey toned Stamina MC, with the Channel One Soundsystem delivering on bass rumbling sonics too.
