And for the first time ever, they’ll be taking Manchester’s most eclectic underground party from beneath the streets and to the new surroundings of Gorilla; one of Manchester’s most exciting new clubs.
Located beneath an atmospheric railway arch, and with a soundsystem more powerful than any passing train, Homoelectric welcome in a new era of clued up musical hedonism with a special guest DJ set from the legendary JD Twitch of Optimo fame. Co-founder of one of the most influential clubs in history, Glasgow’s Optimo ran at Sub Club for over a decade. As well as welcoming innovative and ahead of the game performances for the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Peaches through to SMD and the queen of disco, Grace Jones. However, the pair are still best known for their genre spanning, forward thinking DJ sets and forward thinking approach to music, making them club legends internationally to this day.
Represented this time round by JD Twitch, undoubtedly the bearer of the best sideburns in music, the tirelessly up for it Homoelectric crowd can expect absolutely anything and everything from Twitch, but will likely best be prepared for a mix of grinding disco, punkish basslines, proper acid and all sorts of strange finds. Few could be better chosen to soundtrack the sweatbox of Homoelectric. Regulars and newcomers can also expect similarly exotic and occasionally classic sounds from Homoelectric’s residents Jamie Bull and Will TRAMP! - the latter of whom was of course recently allocated the prestigious title of 'DJ of the Year' by Citylife, and nowhere has he honed his sets better than at Homo.
Meanwhile in the adjacent restaurant and bar, usually the domain of business lunches and birthday cocktails, ‘disco librarian’ Lucy Lockett will be keeping the vibe very much heads down, hands up, providing a sensual evening of groove excursions to compliment the roof shaking madness just next door.
Always an occasion and never short of surprises, Homoelectric is one of the most real loving, feeling parties in Manchester. Regulars will flock back as usual, but whether homo, hetero, don’t know or disco ASBO, there’s no better time to introduce yourself to Homoelectric and jump in the disco deep end than this Easter, as Homoelectric launches what will doubtlessly be a new legacy of great parties, great people and especially great music.
