Over the past few years Mellowtone’s presence on the Liverpool music scene has been reassuringly consistent. They’ve curated shows and concerts within a specific purpose, introducing a wealth of local talent alongside more established performers within the delightful realm of folk, roots, acoustic and general live loveliness. September sees that reputation further enhanced with a double header of gigs cropping up.

Both shows sees them return to their home of sorts, Leaf Café on Bold St, with the first kicking off on the bugbear of superstitious sorts everywhere, Friday 13th. Headline duties are handled by Liverpool’s five piece Red Sails, who are described as crafting ‘honest, beautiful music’, an apt enough three words to encapsulate Mellowtone as a whole. They will be supported by Mancunian Ben Hayworth under his This Morning Call guise and Lumin Bells.

A little under two weeks later and they welcome Blue Rose Code (performing 'Ghosts of leith' above) once more to Bold St’s quaintest venue on Wednesday 25th September. The project of Edinburgh reared singer/songwriter Ross Wilson, his debut album North Ten featured the presence of legendary bassist Danny Thompson (whose charge sheet includes work with Kate Bush, John Martyn, Talk Talk and many others) and charters the romantic ascension from Wilson’s working class toils and drug and alcohol addiction to a better place.

The show also has Jay Nash performing, a singer who wears his artistic influences of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, The Grateful Dead and many more proudly on his sleeve, and Ian Dunn. Both shows will be bolstered by DJ support from Mellowtone’s usual residents and friends.
