More grassroots venues across Ireland are set to benefit from government backing after the announcement of the 2026 Grassroots Venues Support Scheme recipients.
Following a pilot programme last year, the scheme has been expanded for 2026 with a total of €1 million allocated to support independent venues that champion emerging talent. This year, 60 venues have secured funding, almost doubling the number supported in 2025.
Designed to strengthen Ireland’s live music ecosystem, the initiative helps venues cover the costs of staging grassroots events while creating more opportunities for up-and-coming performers to reach audiences around the country. For the first time, the programme also includes venues that showcase Irish comedy alongside live music.
Funding was split across two streams. Established venues with a proven track record of supporting new Irish artists were eligible for grants of up to €20,000, while smaller venues looking to expand their programming could apply for grants of up to €8,000.
Among the venues awarded the top level of funding are well-known names including Whelan’s, The Grand Social, The Workman’s Club, Róisín Dubh, Cyprus Avenue and Dolan’s, alongside dozens of independent spaces spanning towns and cities across the country.
The expanded scheme forms part of Ireland’s wider Night-Time Economy strategy and aims to strengthen the infrastructure that allows emerging musicians and comedians to build audiences and progress through the live circuit.
