So Mr Miller you have come a long way since your first release Vanity. In a few short sentences tell us a little about your career so far????
Well, as most people know I was around for a while when Vanity first came out. I started dj-ing at a very young age, and have had residencies at Dutch clubs since I can remember. But the people probably didn't know that much about me before I started my residency at the Matrixx. At that time I had been in the studio for quite some time, but indeed Vanity was my first major release. From that moment on I have been in a great flow in the studio, and I've always had the urge to make peak-time records. Which is working out rather well I guess;-) The tracks that came out so far, and of course the Matrixx enabled me to play at some of the greatest festivals and amazing clubs all over the world, so I'm a very happy guy!
You were resident in your Fathers club at the age of just 16. Has your father been an inspiration to you and helped you get to where you are today????
Both my parents have always been an inspiration to me, just for being who they are. You can imagine the initial shock they felt when I told them I wanted to make a career in music, but I always got their full support, even when other people asked them when I was going to get a 'real' job, LOL. I guess they've always believed in me, and I'm glad I didn't let them down. I intend to make them even more proud in the future, 'cause I've got a lot more up my sleeve, just wait and see!
What was it like making it to the final of the championships at Dance Valley way back in 1999????
Gosh, I loved that! I was so young back then, I opened up every register to impress the jury, scratching, looping, three turntables, you name it. I was so busy I didn't even have time to be nervous! But it really was a great experience. It really helped that by that time I'd already spent so many hours behind the decks, there's no better way to work on your mixing-skills, and increasing your confidence in front of an audience. I still benefit from that!
Did you enjoy getting involved with our very own Jordan Suckley, and remixing his track The Storm which later came out on Goodgreef Digital????
Defenitely! I always take it as a compliment, when I'm asked to do a remix, and I must say, Jordan provided me with an energetic theme to work with. It's lots of fun being able to give a track that you would already have in your bag your own twist. And offcourse I loved seeing my name on a Goodgreef-label, that's an honour!
You have also done a lot of work with Trance master Rank 1, and had great success with them. Tell me what that is like????
When I first found out Benno de Goeij was interested in working on a track with me I was over the moon, seriously, I have been spinning Rank1 stuff from day 1. I mean legends! By the time we finished our first release And then... we hit it off in the studio so well, we decided to make this a long-term working relationship. Working with Benno is really inspiring, but I guess that shows, since Lost Connection, Eclipse, 9 minutes, Face Value and Brace Yourself all did so well. Right now, all major DJ's are picking up Red One, and we won't stop there! We have a lot of ideas for new tracks for 2010, even thinking about that now makes me want to rush off into the studio and get finishing every single one of them! Don't know what Benno would think about that though, considering it's 10 P.M......
What is your favourite sport ????
Is it safe to talk about your soccer-preferences in the UK?:-) No seriously, soccer is my thing, I play it myself, training twice a week, and sometimes, if my schedule allows it, I'll play a match on Sundays. PSV is my team, but I watch nearly everything when it comes to soccer. I'm glad there's no time-difference with South Africa, so when I'm in Europe this summer, I'll be able to watch before my gigs!
We have asked fellow Dutchman Headhunterz this same question. Tell us if you know what does a
traditional Yorkshire dinner consist of????
Isn't that roast-beef and Yorkshire pudding with gravy? So my Nigella Lawson-fan wife just tells me. Never had it, but am very curious. Can I have that in Leeds on the 2nd of January before I hit home?
And finally away from the DJ-ing, what are your favourite pass times????
If I could fit 30 hours in a day, I would! Besides always being busy with music and everything that comes with that, I love soccer, and recently got into gardening. It may sound boring, but it really relaxes me. I'm also a total PlayStation3 fanatic. How amazing would it be to go to the store to get PES 2011 and find out they've put a Jochen Miller track on it!
