Liaison return to Pacha in the month of August to really heat things up. We have bought a little bit of Ibiza to the sexiest club brand in the world. A live performance is provided by Goldfish the resident of Pacha Ibiza, playing weekly on the white isle which keeps the vibe alive and true. Playing alongside some of the biggest international talent in the world. Gordon Edge the Bora Bora legend, will take you back to the time you laid on the most famous party beach in the world and left your cares behind!
We caught up with Goldfish ahead of the event.

Hey guys, how are you and hows the Ibiza season been treating you so far?

Its been amazing, whats there not to like about living for 4 months of the year in Ibiza! Have been playing some fun gigs and seeing some fantastic artists and DJs while we are here. Between the music and the lifestyle, Ibiza has the perfect balance of both.

How did you both first become exposed to electronic music and how did you meet and start working together?

We were both into music from a very early age and luckily our folks were very supportive of us following this path. That really helps. As far as electronic music, the 1st time I heard Kruder and Dorfmeister K&D sessions was like a revelation. Also St Germains Tourist album is a classic and definitely inspired us to combine all the live instruments we had studied at University with electronic sounds. That shared love of those two albums kind of got Goldfish going!

You are originally from South Africa, can you tell us more about the scene here? How does it differ to that of Europe?

Well South Africa and Cape Town in particular is such a great place to live. Its kind of similar to the Ibiza lifestyle (without the super clubs)with such a great emphasis on aesthetics and beauty. Its just such a gorgeous city to live in. The club and dance scene is small but passionate compared to the rest of the world, but it was the perfect place for us to forge our sound without the pressure that I think some artists might have had elsewhere - to conform to a particular sound or style. We just did our own thing.

You are hailed worldwide for your highly skilled live sets, have you ever had any big problems while playing? Ha! How about last night when my Bass fell over and totalled Daves Flute?(Sorry Dave) We try to run a tight ship that is foolproof but when an excited fan who has been drinking on an empty head accidently pours his drink on your £2000 mixer minutes before a big show there is not a lot you can do. As happened a couple of weeks ago. Roll with the punches!

Although electronic scene based, you guys are highly unique in that you incorporate jazz instruments into your music and sets, do you find it takes longer to produce electronic tracks with such raw sounds? Definitely. There is a lot of work that goes into incorporating the differing sounds together. Its a lot more tricky to get it right with such differing timbres, but when it works its the best thing ever. Light and shade, analogue and digital, organic and electricwe like music with some dirt rubbed in.

Whats your production style like compared to that of other DJs? Whats the first move you make when headed into the studio? Make a cup of tea. That is the 1st move. You cant do ANYTHING without that. Ableton Live is our weapon of choice.People go on about how this music program is best for this, this plugin is best for that. And that is rubbish. Look what Fatboy Slim did with an Atariand an Akai Sampler. Its what is going on between your two ears first and foremost. Having said that, we love Trentemollers production work and of course Deadmua5 has sets the bar high from a technical sound quality perspective. There are so many producers doing amazing work it is hard to single out any in particular.

You are not only Pacha Ibiza residents but also release on the Pacha label, how did this relationship come about and how have you found it shape you as artists, if it has at all? The relationship came about as many great relationships have on the Pacha Ibiza terrace at 5am in the morning. We had just done a gig in the Global room as a one-off after blagging 30minutes at Café Mambo before Pete Tong and the guys from Pacha were there, liked what we were about and the rest is history!

Pacha aside you regularly play all over the world with a host of the biggest names in the scene, if you could set up a dream gig, who would you play with and at what venue? You know, there is nothing better than coming back after months of touring and playing your hometown. We have an amazing outdoor venue in Cape Town called Kirstenbosch that is a world heritage site right under Table MountainWe are lucky enough to be invited to play there every year to a massive crowd of our 1st fans who were there in the beginning -its still our favourite place to play.

You are playing this month at Pacha Londons Liaison night alongside Gordon Edge, are you looking forward to the event? What do you have lined up for the crowd? Weve been working on new tracks that we are excited to play out as well as hit the crowd with their favourite Goldfish tunes, always re-worked and remixed. Keen to check out Gordon Edge too. It should be a rocking night out!

What else is on the cards this year? Any festivals lined up at all? Londoners can catch us at Get loaded in the park on Clapham Common on the 30th of August. Got a line-up to drool over!

Check out Goldfish at Liason @ Pach on 8th August
