Comedy @ Chorlton Irish Club returns on Friday 3rd July with yet another great line up including three comedians all at the club for the very first time.
Glastonbury's infamous Cabaret Tent is widely regarded as being one of the toughest 'rooms' a comedian can play. If it doesn't go well the 2000 strong crowd can be quite vocal with their criticism and if it really isn't going well then it's not unheard of for objects to begin to fly in the direction of the stage. Then why would any act worth their salt perform there?
Well, when it goes well it tends to go rather well indeed! And anyone who was there last year would vouch for Liverpudlian Steve Gribbin having had an exceptionally 'good Glasto'. This isn't unusual as Steve has been asked to play there every year for over twenty years now and is as much a fixture as the mud or the daft hats.
Steve specialise in short, sharp. satirical comedy songs and his proudest achievement to date includes his Oasis parody that resulted in Noel Gallagher sending word via his management that he was really upset about it!
The other Steve of the evening is Steve Harris who briefly flirted with a career in music when his band First Offence had modest chart success in the Nineties. In fact, a career in pop was looking quite likely until he decided to try some comedy rapping and ended up being crowned the City Life Comedian Of the Year. Considering this was only his fifth gig and previous winners include Peter Kay and Steve Coogan, Harris decided to have a serious ponder about his next career move. Comedy won out and Steve no longer relies on rhymes for his ribaldry but taps into his Salford upbringing, world travels and pulling some disturbingly funny faces to wow his audiences.
The line up comes complete with Penella Mellor who is back by popular deamnd and MC for the evening Ray Peacock.
The show starts at 8.30pm prompt and admission is £12 on the door or £10 advance from the venue or online
