Since launching within an abandoned Victorian warehouse in 2006, Village Underground has been a prominent part of London's music venue scene, and this year will mark the 20th anniversary of the venue. Located in East London, Village Underground has now also revealed the plans for its new rooftop space ahead of the anniversary celebrations.
Designed by London-based studio MOBO Works, the 300-capacity rooftop space is set to open on Friday 3rd July. Featuring a central bar with pizza supplied by Bad Boy Pizza, the rooftop will also be available for attendees of Village Underground's music and club event programming.
The space will also grant visitors access to the venue's iconic, hollowed-out Jubilee Line train carriages for the first time after they were previously used as a workspace for Village Underground staff.
Village Underground CEO Auro Foxcroft spoke about the upcoming 20-year celebration, saying, "For nearly 20 years, we’ve had this suntrap spot on the Shoreditch skyline to ourselves, so it’s exciting to finally be able to share it with our audiences and the local community. The train carriages have been part of how we’ve used the space day to day - from working to interviewing artists - and this feels like the natural next step, opening them up and making them part of the space for everyone to enjoy."
Village Underground has yet to release its full celebration programme, but for more info, click here.
