A worldwide virtual premiere of Free Party: A Folk History will happen on the 30th of May. The documentary will explore the impact of ‘90s rave culture and the attempted establishment crackdowns on it.
The film will explore everything from the free 1992 Castlemorton festival, which went down in history as the biggest illegal rave ever held in the UK, to the legislation that the event inspired, the Criminal Justice Act 1994.
Directed by Aaron Trinder, the film will feature interviews with, and footage from, key figures in the scene, including Spiral Tribe, Colin Dale, Bedlam, and affiliates of DiY Sound System.

In a statement, Aaron Trinder said, “This film is a unique look at a much-underrepresented moment in cultural history.
“It was the last great unifying youth movement before the digital age, one that challenged the authorities, connected environmental awareness with music, and questioned laws on land rights and trespass.”
“With new laws criminalising trespass and protest across Europe, the story is more relevant than ever.”
The film will also look back at the government's crackdown on illegal events following the Second Summer of Love.
The premiere will give viewers advance access to the full film and bonus features, including unseen scenes and interviews. Find more info and get tickets here.
The documentary previously had a limited premiere at the 2023 Doc'n Roll film festival.
