Anticipation for this event had been at fever pitch, ever since we received our press invites at WeLoveDJs Towers! Cream, was back in the midlands and promised us a night of classics to throw us, unashamedly, back to a golden age of house. We were literally giddy with excitement.
If you?ve never been to this venue, you should. Its gothic exterior and dramatic entrance, teases you with what is held in the bowels of the monstrous venue. Spread over 4 levels, the venue holds a second venue in its basement, The Library. For the Cream Winter Sessions, they utilised the cavernous main arena and one of the larger back rooms, to host the ?slut? of the scene, Brothel.
As we entered the main arena, we witnessed one of Birmingham?s finest DJ?s George Kafetzis, treating the crowd to his unfathomable style of mixing. Infectious energy, classic track after track, flawless mixing, scratching and cuts that literally filled the dance floor. In his trademark Westwood, the G-master showed the Cream faithful what the night was going to hold.
Seb Fontaine took to the decks, to provide the packed crowd with a trip down memory lane. His set was an eye closed, fist in the air blend of house and trance that literally threw you back into Nation. The crowd adored his set and he laid the foundations for the headliner of the night. Judge Jules. The Judge did not disappoint. WeLoveDJs were not sure how he would be received at a Cream event, but our doubts were unnecessary, he was amazing.
Then something happened. Nick Rafferty took to the wheel of steel. We had been treated to the classics, trance classics, house and Cream classics. We were then treated to the harder sound of the Cream genre. It was outstanding. Every track lifted and lifted the crowd to a state of oblivion. Fiji & 1998, ensured the dance floor remained rammed till the end of his set, it was truly amazing.
In room 2, Brothel did not disappoint either. A welcome break from the hard hitting sweat fest of the main room, it was a place to grab a drink, enjoy quality upfront house and wiggle those winkle pickers. One of the DJs was stuck in Mexico so was replaced by local boys Jonze and Hed Kandi favourite Mike Catherall. They treated us to some dirty beats including the summers monster hot ?Bigger Than Prince?.
All-in-all, Cream Birmingham delivered one hell of a night. Every DJ delivered outstanding sets and showed the midlands what the Cream brand stands for. Good fucking music.
We were told as we left of a date. A date that we will be back. It?s the 8th March 2014. Cream WILL RETURN!!! and you know we will be there!
