Lancaster Music Co-op, a non-profit rehearsal facility, recording studio, and music space for the music community in Lancaster and the surrounding area, are on the verge of reopening after six years without a permanent home. Founded in 1985, the Lodge Street recording studio and rehearsal space closed its doors in 2019 owing to the need for major repairs, but secured a 99-year lease with Lancaster City Council in 2023 to work on the renovation.

Following an extensive renovation process, the co-operative are close to opening its doors, and have announced Co-opilation Vol #1, a 21-track collection comprising music donated by local artists to help raise funds towards its re-opening. The mixtape includes house music, hardcore, post-punk, and indie folk, and will be released exclusively on the co-operative’s Bandcamp page on Saturday 20th December.

“The Co-op has had an incredible 2025.” The organisation said of the forthcoming reopening, “Our renovation project has progressed leaps and bounds. We can’t wait to show you how it’s looking in there as it’s getting really close! Fundamentally though, what we have all tried to do is keep our community together. Without a community, there is no co-op.”
