BPM?s first birthday is fast approaching, we caught up with Mampi Swift and Crissy Criss to let you guys know what will be going on at the Coronet on Boxing Day. Q: Mampi - Now that the year is coming to a close, what has 2013 been like for you? A: The highs for me have been I've firmly established myself back to where I should be! Having a 5 year absence from any job is unheard of, but to come back and make some of my biggest and best music I feel is quite remarkable. And to be mixing at the level I?m mixing at for me personally is great. Not owning CDJs meant I've had to learn and make the transition in public whilst playing to live crowds! Q: You?re playing for BPM twice in December, for both their 18+ event at The Coronet on Boxing Day and at their 16+ event at Motion in Bristol the week before. Will you be bringing something different to each of these events considering the difference in the attendees? Do you feel age is a significant factor in deciding the type of set you?re going to play? A: My mind set will be the same at both events and the same as I play all the time, which is ?let's make these people dance?! I like to bring lots of energy to my sets and like to have lots of energy in front of me. Although this is the 1st BPM I've played at, I've heard some great things about the crowd in particular and I'd say it's my type of crowd, meaning they want good music and lots of energy. Some crowds already have chips on their shoulders before the DJ comes on because he's not known for playing their preferred style of music! One of the best gigs I've played at this year was an u18 crowd in Norwich, which was absolutely fantastic so I?m really looking forward to getting on the decks at BPM. Q: BPM has built huge support from artists and promoters alike given the events and line-ups they are putting on for the younger generation. What are your feelings towards events of this kind for the younger market? A: This kind of event is, in my opinion, extremely important! It hasn't been poisoned by following what everyone else does. They just book good artists for their talents. For the next generation of ravers/music lovers, it's great because to be blunt, they?re being given a very high standard of artist where many nights around don't supply this kind of standard. Also, it's not a label night so you?re getting a much broader range of artist. If we just had label nights with their own artists playing, it wouldn't be a good thing?great for the labels but bad for the overall scene. Q: We?ve heard your already busy working on ?History LP Vol.II?. Since dropping tracks like ?Gangster? and ?Raw? last year, and with your big remixes and releases this year, have you seen a growth in your fan base? A: Yes I have seen an increase in everything but to just put you straight, my LP didn't actually come out. People assumed it had because the few tracks that came out made such a massive impact! I've reinvented myself?20 years after starting, some kids have only heard of me in recent times and I must say, it's great. Usually you just roll with everything, that?s how most artists adapt to a new era. It's definitely harder when you have to think about it. And what's great is I'm still climbing my own personal ladder of achievement. So I'm sorry to say to the people who were happy to see me go, I'm just warming up and I have a new lease of energy as well as new skills which not many people have at this stage of their careers! Q: With 2013 coming to an end, looking back you?ve had a massive year with your releases and collaborations with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and more. Can we expect more big name collaborations next year? What does 2014 have in store for Mampi Swift? A: There is some fantastic music lined up for next year. Some dance floor anthems as well as some big vocal tracks that are fantastic. There will be projects just as big and even bigger than those dropped this year. There are some very exciting times ahead! Roll on 2014! Q: Crissy - now that the year is coming to a close, what has 2013 been like for you? Give us the highs and maybe some of the lows. A: This year has been extra busy, every year just seems to be more hectic than the last. Lots of great cites, countries, clubs, festivals, amazing music and obviously great supporters. Big highlights would be Nass Fest, 3 hour set in Perth, another 3 hour set at my ?Crissy Criss & Friends? Free night at Fire and probably winning £2 on a scratch card. Q: You have been working a lot on your Dubstep project ?DEAD EXIT? this year. Can you tell the readers a bit more about the whole project and how it came about? A: Yeah I?ve been busy in the studio doing lots of ?Dead Exit? stuff this year, given away loads of music. It basically consists of myself, Sammy P and Craig Lee. It came about after I?d just had enough of confusing fans?and myself at gigs. Some people travel miles to come see me play, the majority expecting Drum & Bass and others expecting me to play Dubstep. The name 'Crissy Criss' is strictly Drum & Bass and I intend to keep it that way. ?Dead Exit? is a fresh breath of air for me and the guys in the group, as they also play other genres under other names too. It also gives the supporters exactly what they want to hear whether it be a 'Crissy Criss' set or a 'Dead Exit' set. Q: What have can the BPM ravers expect from you on Boxing Day? A: Expect nothing less than a first class journey though Drum & Bass! Q: What has been your favorite show to play this year so far? A: Pretty hard to nail one event on the head to be honest. Warning in Cambridge is always a great night, also Nass Festival as I always say is great fun! Q: With your show on Radio 1 Xtra, you must be flooded with new material on a daily basis. Who are you feeling at the moment? Any new talent you have your eye on and can recommend watching out for next year? A: I think the correct word would be 'tsunami'! I receive so much music each and every week from all around the globe. So many new producers it?s hard to keep up sometimes. There are lots of great new artists about, like Dimension, Frankee, Command Strange, Six Blade, Emperor?the list goes on! Q: What can be expected from yourself and ?Dead Exit? in 2014? A: I?m slowly getting through working on an album for myself (as Crissy Criss). I?m not saying it will be out next year but who knows! As for ?Dead Exit?, I?ve got a load of stuff lined up! We?ve got 2 tracks signed to a big Dubstep label, which I can't mention right now until paper works done! Also, I'm working on a bunch of tracks in another genre, which is all top secret?. Until someone spots that it?s me. 2014 is going to be a big year!
