We are very fortunate in the North West of England to be surrounded by talented people of all ages from all walks of life. But it is often the case that, unless these incredibly talented individuals 'get lucky' and manage to 'make it big', many local singers, songwriters, musicians, comedians and more go unnoticed and undiscovered. Next month, however, Morecambe plans on putting a stop to this.

On Sunday 12th July, The Platform are hosting 'A Night on the Prom': an evening of variety entertainment full of local singers, comedians, theatre groups, songwriters, magicians and musicians. It's a chance for some undiscovered Northern gems to get their acts in front of an audience, to show everyone what the North West has to offer.

'For me, it was always about local talent,' event organiser Tom Fisher tells us, 'I am constantly amazed at the diversity and quality of local talent here in the North West, and it's such a shame when acts don't get the recognition they deserve. This is why I've organised 'A Night on the Prom': I want to give these acts, many of whom have never performed on stage before, the opportunity to bring their talents to a wider audience.'

'A Night on the Prom' will feature: magician Kevin Cunliffe, who has gained popularity around Lancaster and Morecambe; Off The Rails, a Morecambe-based world music band; Lancaster-based comedian Ed Colley, as he prepares for his show at the Edinburgh Fringe; singer Laura Hill, known in the Preston arts scene; Ollie Winder, a Lancaster singer and songwriter; Improv Xpress, an improvisational theatre troupe from the North West; Ella Jones, an acoustic singer/songwriter from Lancaster; and, an exclusive performance by Preston Puppet Theatre, as they re-imagine popular films through the art of puppetry.

All proceeds from the evening will go towards St John's Hospice: a local charity supporting patients and families around Lancashire and the North West.

So if you fancy an evening of local talent and entertainment, then spend 'A Night on the Prom' at The Platform, Morecambe.
