World Music

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has welcomed the world to Wales every summer since 1947. Each year around 4,000 performers from over 35 countries converge on Llangollen, a picturesque Welsh town, to sing and dance in a unique combination of music, dance and international peace and friendship.

The event began with a vision that the ancient Welsh eisteddfod tradition could provide a means of healing the wounds of the Second World War, and help to promote lasting peace between nations. It is acknowledged as one of the foremost world festivals and has been nominated for a number of awards, including the Nobel Prize for Peace. The festival is proud to be supported by HRH The Prince of Wales as its Patron and Terry Waite CBE as its President.

Over the years, it has attracted cultural icons like Dylan Thomas and the great Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who began his international career as a member of a choir from Modena at Llangollen in 1955. The event proudly boasts

The 72nd Eisteddfod will take place from Tuesday 3rd until Sunday 8th July 2018 at the Royal International Pavilion in Llangollen, Denbighshire. Six days of music and folk dance from all over the world in one place! During the day, singers, dancers and instrumentalists from around the globe take part in a variety of competitions adjudicated by leading names from the world of music and dance. The festival site features additional stages with performances from both competitors and world music acts, along with exhibitors, retailers, craft workers and global cuisine outlets. In the evening, the 4,000 capacity Pavilion plays host to a variety of concerts including world-class artists and the prestigious televised Choir of the World competition.
