Pete Long: The Multi-Instrumentalist with a Legendary CV
From the National Youth Jazz Orchestra to writing arrangements for Sir Paul McCartney, Pete is one of the UK's most accomplished and versatile musicians. This woodwind maestro, a demon on the saxophone, clarinet, and more. Pete has a CV that reads like a musical Hall of Fame.
He cut his teeth touring the world with the award-winning Sax Quartet Itchy Fingers, sharing the stage with jazz titans like Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, and John Scofield. For five years, he was a key part of Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, arranging and playing alongside legends like Tom Jones, Norah Jones, Solomon Burke, and Lionel Richie.
You've heard him even if you don't know it: Pete's baritone sax and oboe feature on the iconic Stereophonics hit "Handbags and Gladrags" - the unforgettable theme to The Office.
Today, he spends most of his time as a bandleader and orchestrator, directing the Big Band at Ronnie Scott's and leading his own acclaimed repertory orchestra, Echoes Of Ellington, whose album The Jazz Planets won the Times "Must Have Jazz CD Of The Year" in 2018.
