Singer and composer Déa Trancoso was shaped in the heart of the popular culture of Vale do Jequitinhonha (Jequitinhonha River Valley), her hometown and one of the richest Brazilian regions, in terms of popular culture and folklore.
She has been blessed at the traditional festival Folia dos Reis, and brought up in close contact with Catimbó, Congado, and other typical cultural and religious festivities such as Bois de Janeiro and Beira-Mar.
She has dedicated her life to showing Brazil to Brazilians and to the world.
In 2006 she released the album TUM TUM TUM, which registers her deep research into Brazilian popular culture and folklore, especially in the Vale do Jequitinhonha area.
The CD received four nominations for the Brazilian Music Award 2007, running up against Maria Bethânia, Chico Buarque, Alceu Valença, Antônio Nóbrega, Margareth Menezes and Daniela Mercury.
In 2008, after opening for Naná Vasconcelos in Belo Horizonte, she toured Europe for the second time, visiting Italy, France and Portugal, as a member of the group of artists from Minas Gerais who represented this state at the Minas Gerais Week, in Turin, Italy.
In 2009 she performed in six Brazilian cities, sponsored by Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, as an opening act to the multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti.
Her music appears on CHILL BRAZIL 5, with 32 MPB singers including Céu, Mônica Salmaso, Roberta Sá, Mart`nália and Tereza Cristina, compiled by Charles Gavin (Titãs) and in “CHILL`N`BOSSA”, alongside huge names like: Tom Jobim, João Gilberto, Milton Nascimento, Tito Madi and Luís Melodia. This was released by Warner in Brazil, Europe, Japan and the US.
In 2012 she celebrates her career`s 25th anniversary by releasing a CD-Box containing her four CDs: O Violeiro e a Cantora, TUM TUM TUM, Serendipity and Flor de Jequi – Déa Trancoso and Paulo Belinatti.
