In the world of trance Sean Tyas is an undeniable success story. He first rose to prominence in 2006 with his winning remix of Sander Van Doorn's Punk'd' in a competition the Dutch DJ organised to find fresh talent, and fresh talent he duly unearthed. Going onto work with another Netherlands messiah Armin Van Buuren, as well as remix the likes of Tiesto, Dash Berlin and Above & Beyond, he's been a force in the genre ever since.

He'll be joining a myriad of the leading lights in trance for Digital Society's Seventh Birthday on Friday March 7th, with the likes of Aly & Fila, John O'Callaghan, Orjan Nielsen and Simon Patterson all bringing in the euphoria at the O2 Academy in Leeds

Hi Sean thanks for speaking to us. How much are you looking forward to being involved with Digital Society and what is your relationship with them like?

Shout to the Digital society crew - thanks for having me, I'm really excited to get back! I’ve played for DS parties for about six years now, knowing the crew from pretty close to the start of their venture.  It is THE “go to” event brand for trance parties in the Leeds area, and the guys are all clued up with the acts they book.

Actually, they’re usually the first to bring out most of the breakthrough trance talent. I always love a DS event - I know the vibe will be off the charts, and the lineup is always smart!

What have been your favourite memories playing for them?

My favorite one was closing right after Paul van Dyk over a year ago.  Of course, it’s well known that the guy is my personal hero, and this for me was truly special.

You've also contributed a podcast (listen above) for them recently. Can you run us through what the mix represents?

On the DS Podcast, my mix represents my sound that you would hear at the club pretty accurately.  I’m loving the new stuff coming out lately, and this is very evident on my shows and at my live sets.

You also have your own frequent radio show/podcast, the Tytanium sEssions. For those who might notknow about it can you explain the format?

Pretty simple really, I try to only play the newest stuff, in fact a lot of times the tracks I play are not even out for a couple more weeks or months, so I really like the chance to expose people to newer material. That's a great privilege to have for the show.

Plus, now that the show is two hours, I get to have one or two guests provide 30 minute exclusive guest mixes, and phone interviews to go with them. I feel it's really important for the listeners to get a basic glimpse into the personality of each artist, rather than only hearing the guest sets and productions.

What production news can you let us in on?

Well, of course the big news for me this year is I'm staring down the double-barrel of doing two studio albums roughly over the next three years with my new label home, Black Hole Recordings. Daunting? Yes, but definitely something I have been putting for too long. Now I really have enough techniques and ideas that I feel I can make a very well rounded and smart album.

And where else are you playing in the future?

I'm really looking forward to A State Of Trance 650 in Utrecht of course, and to return over to the Luminosity Beach Festival will be another highlight this summer. In the nearer future, TranceFusion over in Prague is always an amazing event that I look forward to, amongst a couple more that I don’t think allowed to announce just yet for this summer.

Dream Situation time. You've been given a complete blank canvas for a new album and can work with any three musicians, dead or alive. Who would you pick, why would you choose them and how would the end product sound?

I would love to have Liam Howlett, Trent Reznor, and Moby in a room to see what all of us would come up with. To be honest, I would probably just sit back and sponge all the info and techniques I see and hear!

I would have to think that end result would have the dark atmospherics of Reznor, the edgy sound and ripping leads of Liam, and the beautiful blues influences chords of Moby. That’s gotta be insane! If I were to contribute, I’d probably be throwing in my four-to-the-floor style, and making it all something I can play on a dance floor.
