Jazz @ The Cavern With Gareth Lockrane on 8th Feb 2012

Farncombe Cavern, Farncombe

Jazz at The Farncombe Cavern with Gareth Lockrane
Overall rating: 5

The Farncombe Cavern is a very high class, small, but beautiful, live music venue. It has a very friendly atmosphere and I really enjoy going there. It is very easy to get to, being only 5 minutes walk from Farncombe Railway Station. There are frequent trains in the evening, especially, down the line from Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour. I live in Haslemere, but can be home in half an hour, if I time it right!
Listening to Flautist Gareth Lockrane with the Marianne Windham Trio was really quite a magical experience. In my opinion they are all world class artists.

GOODGREEF IS GOING HOME..... TALLTREES on 4th Feb 2012

Tall Trees, Yarm

tall trees coming home
Overall rating: 4.5

10 out of 10 for getting a name like oakenfold but his music style is no good to me at all, every one ive spoke to was well bored with him, he went on 4 ever. he refuses to play dance floor smashes, his highlight was 2 tracks, southern sun and bullet in a gun. he killed the dance floor the place went numb, orjan and one of the ali and fila boys (possibly fila) absolutely smashed it. there music is what i go to goodgrief for. over all pure class. please please please get van buuren, name your ticket price!!!

Stormy Monday Blues on 6th Feb 2012

The Comedy Pub, London

3am@ Stormy Monday Blues Comedy Pub Piccadilly
Overall rating: 4.5

This lower ground floor bar is perfect for live music. Nice long bar, friendly staff, comfy seating and some wooden dance floor: dim lighting to help that all important atmosphere - and a decent-sized stage for the band to perform. And the band was awesome! It didn't take long before most of the girls (and one of the guys!) were up dancing to this mix of blues-rock covers and "home made" tunes. As a venue for musicians to hang out as well as perform, it was not such a surprise when Paul Lamb got up from the audience and joined the band to add some impromptu harmonica to a couple of their songs. Next Stormy Monday Blues will be two weeks from the last one - can't wait!!

Goodgreef Feb 2012
Overall rating: 4

Even a struggle in the snow was not stopping me getting to Goodgreef!!Yet again another amazing night in Club M. The music was amazing and danced till the end.

The only downfall for me had to be at the end of the night with the cloakroom matter!! This was EXTREMELY disorganised!! I was in a crowded corridor with poeple getting crushed and stood on for 1.5hrs.

The cloakroom attendent was very rude, and didnt have a clue!! The serurity staff helping retrieve coats that night were more helpful and organised!

GOODGREEF IS GOING HOME..... TALLTREES on 4th Feb 2012

Goodgreef Winter White Party Tall Trees!!
Overall rating: 4.5

Always a fantastic night at tall trees!! All the DJ's played blinding sets and was a nice surprise having Orjan Nielson, Aly & Fila and Chris Metcalf playing back to back for the final half hour :D Shame poor Jordan Suckley had an accident and couldnt make it tho!

My only complaint has to be the prices! i was driving so only drinking water. At the begging of the night at the upstairs bar i was paying £2 a bottle. Later on in the main room bar i was paying £3 a bottle! Sort your prices out Tall Trees!

Big Night Out in Leeds on 4th Feb 2012

Tiger Tiger Leeds, Leeds

Such a good night!!
Overall rating: 5

We'd heard good reviews of the comedy show at Tiger Tiger in Leeds so I thought I'd get a few of us together and go. I'm so glad we did as it was brilliant! A lovely snowy evening that was a great laugh and extremely reasonable at £9.99, especially as there were 3 comedians. We couldn't stop laughing and everyone agreed that we really want to go again! Absolute bonus that Happy Hour was on from 5pm til 9pm too so half price drinks! We stayed in the venue afterwards too for some drinks and dancing and really had an amazing time. Thank you Tiger Tiger, we will definitely be back!!

Big Night Out in Leeds on 4th Feb 2012

Tiger Tiger Leeds, Leeds

fun in the snow
Overall rating: 5

6 ladies of varying ages on my hen do from consett, co durham. The whole package was fantastic value. Our meal was great, half price drinks were greatly appreciated and our waiter was amazing. Comedy club was fun, the compere/first act was positive and energetic, the second act was hilarious and the headliner was poor and should have been on first. He turned a happy crowd against him by saying we were quiet/tough crowd/hard woork- i've an idea, why dont you just make us laugh. Your final joke re mcdonalds was so obvious it had signposts 10 minutes before you reached the lame punchline. Nightclub was great, fantastic music and a brilliant vibe. On a snowy night we had 3 separate nights under one roof(meal, comedy, nightclub) without venturing outside-- fantastic!!!

York Festival of Storytelling on 3rd Feb 2012

Friends Meeting House, York

Review - 'Wee Folk'
Overall rating: 5

It was a cold, cold Friday afternoon and all I could really think of was getting home, lighting a fire and settling down with some comfort food. But I had booked tickets for me and my four year old daughter to go and see 'Wee Folk' a musically themed story telling event in the Penn Room of the Friends Meeting House.

When we arrived the venue was warm (hurrah) and welcoming with cups of tea or coffee available for the bargain price of 60p. Not bad. So drink in hand, daughter toileted we took our seats. The show started a little late but once under way we emersed ourselves in the jolly, fast paced stories and songs. The 'storyteller' was Ali Morgan who incidentally also runs the Wee Folk Sunday afternoons at the Black Swan pub. (A highly recommended afternoon for kiddies and grown ups alike!)

She was dressed as a pirate which my daughter loved, particularly the stripy red and white tights. Actually I rather liked those myself! The 'show' was completely interactive, children were encouraged to sing along, hold puppets and play along, using the plentiful instruments which were provided.

The children were enthralled as we tripped through pirate songs, animal songs (Chicken Licken even had a happy ending!) and a delightful cheering up the 'Boo Hoo' baby song. The grown ups also wholeheartedly enjoyed singing along, toe tapping, not to mention a little foot stamping.

The hour flew by and before I knew it it was time to face the cold once more and make a dash for the car park before I got a ticket! (I did make it in time you'll be happy to hear!) It was a truly wonderful way to round off the week and I'm thoroughly looking forward to the next storytelling event.
