One of Manchester’s most loved underground dance music venues, Soup Kitchen, will host one of the most forward thinking producers of our time: Martyn.
The ever changing dutchman has been a constant feature of the underground dance music scene. Starting out life as a drum 'n' bass producer, he eventually found himself in the middle of the fledgling dubstep scene. Don’t worry though, it was not the dubstep you associate with the bilge that we now hear parading under that name. His atmospheric, hazy productions were unlike anything the scene was producing, and even back then set him apart from the crowd. He set up his own label 3024 in 2007, which until today is one of the most respected labels in the scene. As time went by he moved away from the broken dubstep template and began explorations into bass driven house and abstract garage tracks combined with strong Chicago and Detroit flavours, packed with his unique song structures and melodic arrangements which only grow on you with repeated listens.
Since then he has explored this sound more, and has forged a niche where upon even after a few seconds of listening, you instinctively know that what you are experiencing is a Martyn track. He is certainly one of the best producers to have come out of the dubstep mold, by constantly proving himself as one of the most talented artists the underground dance music scene has ever borne.
His set at Soup Kitchen will prove to be a journey through the genres, a sonic safari, a musical trip that you’ll be captivated by from beginning to end. Martin Deijkers is a DJ that can’t come highly recommended enough from us here at Skiddle. If you’re in Manchester on Friday 17th May, you’d be mad to go anywhere else.
